East Side Quilters’ Minutes
October 20,2009 VFW Hall,
Route 150, Castleton, New York 12033
The meeting was called to order by our President Sue J. and guests and new members were welcomed.
Beth H. gave the treasurer’s report. We have a treasury of $758.
Program chair Lynn K. announced the annual guild challenge which was Fans. There were 5 finished pieces and 4 unfinished. Members voted on their favorites after the business meeting.
Kathy K. spoke about the upcoming Landscape quilt class on Sat. Nov. 7th which will be from 9am to 4pm. There was a sign-up sheet and some examples of her work.
Next month there will be a charm square swap of 10 - 61/2 in. blocks of floral fabrics.
November’s meeting is the Trash to Treasure sale.
Sue. J. announced that the guild made $115 at the yard sale.
This coming weekend is the fall Quilt Til You Wilt starting on Friday, Oct. 23 at 3pm. Then all day Sat and Sun. Members are planning on making charity quilt kits for next year’s give away or work on person projects.
It was announced that The Greenbush Life weekly paper will be publishing an article about the guild this week.
Marion B. announced the BOM Frugal patch for the November drawing. Antique Tile is the block due in December.
Sue J. reminded members to get their recipes in for the cookbook.
One officer for the guild is open for next year and that is treasurer. Dawn G. volunteered and so far is unopposed.
Dawn reminded members about the raffle quilt that will be drawn at the Dec. meeting. Tickets are available during the meeting.
There was a discussion about the Christmas party and the group decided to have the party catered and the cost will be $10 per member next month. The guild’s Christmas party will be held on Dec. 2nd starting at 6pm.
This year the guild gave away 93 quilts, 60 placemats, and 150 totes (these numbers are approximates)
David from Saint Paul’s told the group that they served 162 clients last year and every family that came to the shelter received a quilt. He said that they are very thankful for the guild’s generosity and he looks forward to coming each year to receive the quilts. 31 quilts.
Tracy from Joseph’s House spoke to the group and reports that this year they are going to give quilts to homeless families living in motels. 31 quilts.
Sherry from the YWCA came for the first time and told us that they had 258 single women and 58 families living at the Y this year and everyone receives a quilt. She thanked the group for our generosity. 31 quilts.
